SolarEdge Case Study - EV Fleet for European Retailer

SolarEdge, in collaboration with Xendee, helped a European retailer transition from diesel to electric trucks at their logistics center by optimizing on-site solar expansion and battery storage. The project addressed a critical challenge: enabling EV truck charging within tight 1-2 hour dispatch schedules without the costly grid capacity expansion typically required for such high-power DC charging infrastructure. By leveraging Xendee’s platform, SolarEdge modeled the integration of additional solar PV and three Helios batteries to buffer energy for EV charging.

Through advanced tools like satellite-based asset placement and time-series optimization, Xendee enabled SolarEdge to size the required solar and storage systems, develop an efficient battery dispatch schedule, and identify additional revenue streams like demand charge reduction. This solution avoided grid expansion costs while delivering operational savings, a faster ROI, and improved financial metrics such as IRR and NPV. The project highlights how innovative energy solutions can meet the growing demand for EV fleet infrastructure while maintaining economic and operational efficiency.

ProtoGen Case Study - Southern Pennsylvania Microgrid Resilience Corridor

The Southern Pennsylvania Resilience Corridor, developed after Hurricane Sandy, highlights a transformative regional approach to energy resilience. The project, initiated by ProtoGen and supported by DOE-OE and INL, addresses the critical need for energy security in Southeastern Pennsylvania's transportation and infrastructure network. Utilizing Xendee's advanced modeling and optimization tools, the project integrates microgrids across five utilities with a medium-voltage backbone, enabling seamless operation during outages. Xendee's iterative design and simulation capabilities ensure the corridor's ability to provide energy during emergencies and adapt as new assets are introduced.

Currently, $70 million in assets are operational, with notable successes such as Quakertown's capacity to support 70% of its peak load, benefiting over 38,000 people in surrounding areas. This initiative serves as a model for regional microgrid implementation, balancing cost-effectiveness with disaster preparedness. It demonstrates how strategic microgrid placement and advanced planning tools like Xendee can enhance energy resilience and inform national microgrid policies.
