Improve the Operational Performance of Your DERs and Microgrids

OPERATE continuously adjusts microgrid and DER operation based on forecasted weather patterns and load changes, outages, and utility rates to optimize performance. This unlocks benefits critical to financial performance such as:

  • Demand charge reduction (Dynamic peak shaving, Time-of-use energy charge optimization, Load shifting)

  • Off-set costs by optimizing energy exports and market participation

  • Overall reduction of utility dependence and purchases

The result is lower costs, reduced carbon emissions, and extended equipment lifespans.

Key Factors for Successful Control

All of these factors must be continuously adaptive over time, which is not possible
with rule-based hardware controllers.

Demand Charge
Reduction

Reduce demand charges and energy spend

Without OPERATE’s load prediction and forward-looking battery control, demand charge reduction can only be achieved if reserve capacities are large enough (oversized) to ensure there’s enough power in the system.

Dynamic Peak
Shaving

Flatten load profiles, imports, and peaks

You can only achieve successful dynamic peak shaving if you forecast your loads and outputs, and continuously adjust your control strategies accordingly. OPERATE provides these predictive capabilities.

Time-of-Use
Optimization

Rapidly adapt to changing tariffs

With OPERATE, easily integrate through API’s to ensure changes in the utility tariff structure are accurate and up-to-date.

Reduced Utility
Dependence & Purchases

Maximize on-site assets for generation and storage

Load forecasting and renewable energy output forecasting allows OPERATE to find the cheapest periods of time for electricity purchases.

Optimized Electric
Vehicle Charging

Balance CaaS and fleet demand with site needs

To minimize EV charging costs or maximize EV charging capacities, accurate forecasting of generation and storage assets is needed to estimate the available EV charging capacities at each point in time. OPERATE provides this capability.

Incentive & Emission
Consistent Operation

Align with grants, incentives, and emissions goals

Only OPERATE allows you to easily switch the objective function of the adaptive control system from costs to emissions. Rule-based or hardware controllers cannot achieve this without expensive re-programming.

Market Participation
& Grid Services

Monetize ancillary services (reserve and regulation

Market participation and grid services only work with adaptive and forward-looking controllers like OPERATE. Any controller without forecasting capabilities will be insufficient to fully capture financial opportunities.

Optimized Energy, Generator
& CHP Dispatch

Recycle heat, consider fuel costs, and efficiency

A physics-based model of a microgrid’s technologies (as used in OPERATE), is needed to dynamically control the flows of multiple energy types such as electricity, heating, cooling, and other energy resources.

Adaptive Control for Maximum Savings

OPERATE continuously monitors site conditions (load, utility prices, fuel prices, weather, DER availability, and outages) and automatically adjusts dispatch to maintain optimal outcomes, even as conditions change.

With OPERATE you can track your savings in real-time.

OPERATE's Function in IEEE 2030.7

OPERATE is the AI-powered predictive control software layer in Blocks 3 and 4 of IEEE 2030.7.

Blocks 1 and 2 are traditional microgrid controllers without any predictive capabilities. Xendee OPERATE  augments existing hardware controllers, further improving economics, emissions, and resilience.

Xendee has partnerships with hardware control vendors, allowing us to offer a complete package for all blocks.

How To Get Started

Successful OPERATE projects begin in DESIGN, where optimization and simulation are used to identify the ideal microgrid configuration and validate projected financial and operational performance before deployment.

01
Verify Savings

Start by validating your potential operational savings. Our team will use Xendee DESIGN and the OPERATE Virtual Simulator to assess and optimize the controller performance before we deploy OPERATE.

02
Integrate & Calibrate

Integrate your existing controller and DER technologies to gather operational data dynamically. This enables Xendee's AI platform to easily generate forecasts and an optimal dispatch strategy.
