Fortune 100 Asset Management Company

A leading U.S. alternative asset management company sought to apply for NEM 2.0 solar incentives for a portfolio of sites and only had days to run the analysis. To qualify for the incentives, the client needed a fast and accurate analysis of the solar capacity for each site, along with an understanding of the potential impacts of including a battery and EV charging station at each site to optimize their returns.

CHALLENGE:

A leading U.S. alternative asset management company sought to apply for NEM 2.0 solar incentives for a portfolio of sites. To qualify for the incentives, the client needed a fast and accurate analysis of the solar capacity for each site, along with an understanding of the potential impacts of including a battery and EV charging station at each site to optimize their returns

The client needed a high-level analysis in just days to make an internal business case for the work.

SOLUTION:

Xendee's DISCOVER solution was leveraged to process all the sites in the portfolio simultaneously. The data considered included load information by site, utility and tariff info by site, and basic assumptions for the DER technologies under consideration (solar, storage, and EV chargers).

Xendee processed this information and generated an optimal solution for each site, highlighting the size of solar needed for each of four scenarios: solar with and without limiting the site to be a net metering importer, as well as adding a battery and a battery with EV charging for a defined EV load. The solution also included techno-economic reports, considering carbon reduction and full financial analysis, one-line diagrams, and power flow analysis for each site.

The platform's automatic optimization allowed for easy iteration and refinement, enabling the client to obtain accurate analysis within hours, and submit their NEM 2.0 application in a matter of days.

RESULTS:

Xendee's solution not only helped the client apply for NEM 2.0 incentives within a short time frame but also provided valuable insights for optimizing the portfolio's returns and carbon reduction efforts. The techno-economic reports provided a comprehensive analysis of the solar and storage solution for each site. This included the expected production and operation characteristics as well as the contributions of each to offsetting a site’s load. Portfolio-level questions were also quickly answered, e.g., which sites would have the most to gain from installing DERs.

Overall, Xendee's solution enabled the client to make informed decisions in a rapid manner, achieve their goals, and maximize their returns.
