XENDEE's Milestone Newsletter #1

More Than 2,000 Locations Worldwide Have Been Analyzed With XENDEE

Hello and thank you sincerely for your interest in XENDEE. This year has been absolutely transformative for the platform, and our team wanted to reach out to keep our users and subscribers aware of what the team has built and what our product roadmap looks like moving forward. This email is the first edition in a series of bi-monthly product updates that will be broken into multiple sections including an overview of XENDEE’s current capabilities, a product roadmap for the next two months, a modeling and engineering tip focused on using new features to complement your workflow, and news on software updates, strategic partnerships, publications, and press attention. Thank you again for your interest in the platform and we look forward to watching the number of sustainable and resilient Microgrids optimized through XENDEE continue to rise.

XENDEE Product Overview

A Review of XENDEE's Updated Microgrid Design & Decision Support Stages

XENDEE is an informed techno-economic decision making platform built on well established scientific models of Microgrid power and energy behavior modeling. It captures all steps needed to plan and implement Microgrids, Community Energy projects as well as Distributed Energy Resource (DER) projects. XENDEE provides screening, conceptual design, basic technical design, detailed technical design, and implementation all in one web-based platform. It automates as much of the design as possible through features such as automated one-line diagram design, automatic calculation of cable length and costs, and calculation of local data, such as utility tariffs and solar/wind resources. XENDEE employs an extensive catalog of vendor-specific technologies, real world utility tariffs, and representative demand profiles, empowering rapid model development. Using the catalogs, real technologies can be modeled side by side to determine the trade-offs. XENDEE also employs several calculators for detailed inputs such as determination of outage costs, solar PV and wind performance, and automatic conversion of units…

The Importance of Dispatch Optimization

Featured Tip From Engineering:

Energy flows (arrows), technology options (boxes), as well as demands in XENDEE (far right)

The spaghetti (Sankey) diagram depicts the energy flows and technologies that can be modeled in the screening, conceptual, and basic technical design levels of the XENDEE optimization engine (XENOPT). Typically, we define a range of distinct loads that need to be served on a given site for a typical year. Time-steps can vary from 1 hour to minutes. For example, it is beneficial to define cooling loads separately from the “electricity-only” loads (e.g. computing or lighting) since cooling loads can be served by multiple energy carriers, which is not true for “electricity-only” as the name says…

April & May Product Roadmap

XENDEE provides multiple views into the techno-economic design of Microgrids and utilizes the Graphical Geographic Information System’s (GIS) easy to use interface as well as the Expert Mode for in-depth techno-economic design. The Expert Mode is extremely flexible and already provides modeling of basic power flow and district heating capabilities between nodes…
