The Positronix™ Model Predictive Controller (MPC) will manage Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and control functions of the Microgrid, allowing it to run in an optimal fashion and adapt to changes like solar variability, electricity price changes, or an outage in real time. This will expand the supervisory control capabilities of DERMS and allow operators to manage Microgrids at scale to reduce costs, increase availability and maximize service lifetime. The project will start with the analysis of a secure communication concept which will allow Xendee’s Positronix™ Controller to safely interface with onsite technologies at the project location, followed by a pilot deployment. As part of this task, Xendee will confirm the data required to enable the MPC and forecasting based controls as well as verify the most secure data exchange method. “Positronix™ is Xendee's intelligent cloud-based controller that takes into consideration real time feedback from Distributed Energy Resources to manage generation and energy dispatch to optimize Microgrid operation. Positronix™ also integrates with Xendee's design and decision support technology, which acts as an integral part of the financial planning process and as part of the consideration for optimized operation,” said Michael Stadler, CTO of Xendee. “It also ensures savings over the lifetime of the project by dynamically reacting to the environment, optimizing for organizational goals like cost reduction, and enhancing service lifetime.” Onsite success of this new control structure will enable wide-scale deployment of the cyber-secure Microgrid controller and enable more facilities, utilities, and remote sites to run on resilient Microgrids that are dynamically managed to meet organizational needs.
